They continue to have a positive impact on so many young lives through their unselfish sharing of their talents! Their enthusiasm and generosity to give of their time and materials is truly special. What it means: Art students here at Fulmer Middle School study the Gullah people including well-known Gullah artist Jonathan Green. The Gullah people are African descendants who live on the Sea Islands along the South Carolina and Georgia coast. They have developed a distinctive culture. They are well-known for their foods such as Hoppin’ Johns and Frogmore Stew as well as their art such as Sweetwater basket weaving and Blue Bottle Trees. The Bottle Tree is a Southern Gullah folk-art garden tradition from the African-American community. The bottles, it is said, trap evil spirits and negative thoughts, keeping them out of your home.
